President Barzani and Prime Minister Borisov Meet in Sofia

President Masoud Barzani and Bulgaria’s Prime Minister, Mr. Boyko Borisov held a meeting in Sofia, Bulgaria to discuss the latest developments of the ongoing operations against the terrorists of the Islamic State.

President Barzani stated that the assistance that has been received from the coalition for the war against the terrorists of the Islamic State has greatly supported the Peshmerga forces and he took the opportunity to express his appreciation for the support from the coalition.

President Barzani and Prime Minister Borisov also spoke of the relations between the Federal Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and how those relations, especially in terms of military coordination have been excellent. The President also made reference to the plans of the Kurdistan Region to conduct a referendum for independence.

The meetings in Sofia also included with the Speaker of Parliament the ministers of Finance, Tourism, and Agriculture. On the other hand, President Barzani’s delegation included a number of Kurdistan Region officials, particularly Mr. Masrour Barzani, the Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council.
