Newroz celebration in Warsaw

On Tuesday 21st March in the seat of KRG Poland Representation in Warsaw there were held main Newroz celebration. Almost 100 guests took part in the event: representatives of state authorities (members of parliament, ministry of foreign affairs, Institute of National Remembrance), diplomatic corps (ambassadors, consuls and secretaries from: Russia, United States, Great Britain, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Qatar, Lebanon and Panama), army, clergy, NGOs, journalists, academic circles and Kurdish diaspora.

Celebrations began with listening to Kurdish and Polish anthems. Then, Ziyad Raoof KRG Representative to Poland gave new-year speech. He mentioned about the importance of March in Kurdish history, the war against ISIS and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region. Taking advantage of the presence of state authority officers and many diplomats, Ziyad Raoof strongly emphasized getting more real prospects of Kurdish independence and presented political initiatives of the KRG Office in Poland in the coming months, including the attempt to recognize Anfal as a genocide by the Polish parliament and appeal for admitting to the treatment in Polish hospital wounded Peshmerga. Then the guests were invited to a Kurdish snack, during which they had a backstage conversation.
