New-year meeting in headquarters of Kurdistan Regional Government representation in Poland

On January 28 KRG representation in Poland organized traditional, new year meeting. It was the opportunity to summarize situation in Kurdistan Region and Iraq in 2019, to familiarize guests with predictions for 2020 as well as summarize KRG Poland activities in 2019 and present plans for 2020.

The meeting was attended by approximately 50 guests, among others representatives of Polish ministry of foreign affairs, Chairman of Polish National Chamber of Notaries, delegation form Polish National Chamber of Commerce, newly appointed Polish ambassador in Iraq, representatives of academic circles, humanitarian organizations, think-tanks and research centers, journalist and Kurds. The event was also attended by charge d’affaires of Iraqi embassy in Poland. There was also present head of the department of foreign relation in marshal office of mazowieckie region who presented Ziyad Raoof with letter from Adam Struzik- marshal of mazowieckie region. 

The meeting started with a speech given by Ziyad Raoof. Firstly he talked about the turbulent situation in the Middle East mentioning violent crackdown on protests in Iraq, resurgence of ISIS, attack on Kurds in Syria. On the other hand, he stressed the fact, that Kurdistan Region remains oasis of peace and stability and the year 2019 was prosperous for Kurdistan. However, he also mentioned problems facing Kurdistan in 2020: rivalry between USA and Iran, danger of ISIS, still huge number of refugees. In that moment Ziyad Raoof expressed gratitude to representatives of Polish humanitarian organizations for aid given to refugees in Kurdistan. 

In the second part of the speech Ziyad Raoof briefly described the most important KRG Poland activities in 2019 and plans for 2020. He emphasized that last was year marked with strengthening Polish-Kurdish cooperation and this year seems to be even more promising. In  January there was a visit of high-rank KRG delegation which resulted in declaration of another meetings.

After the speech guests were invited to Kurdish dinner and there were continued backstage conversations.
