KRG Representative in Poland took part in the Asian Congress

From 22 to 23 October in Torun was held the seventh edition of the international conference “Asian Congress”. This year due to the Covid-19 pandemic the event was organized in on-line mode.

Indonesia was a honorary guest of this-year edition. On this occasion participants listened to the special message for the Congress given by Indonesian minister of foreign affairs- Retno Marsudi.

As every year the Congress started with opening panel with presence of the diplomats who gave speeches: ambassadors of China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Palestine and KRG Representative in Poland.

Ziyad Raoof spoke about the difficult situation in the Middle East, which, apart from chronic instability, is also facing the coronavirus pandemic and the collapse of the oil market this year. Later in his speech, he emphasized that the decisive months for the future of Iraq are taking place. On the one hand, constructive dialogue between Kurdistan Region authorities and Iraqi prime minister Kadhimi finally brought some effects- like budget deal and agreement on normalization in Shingal. On the other hand, a thaw in Iraqi-Kurdish relation met with counteraction of internal and external forces which resulted in failed rocket attack on Erbil Airport and torching of KDP headquarters in Baghdad. Overthrow of prime minister Kadhimi and breaking the dialogue with Kurdish might cause a total chaos in Iraq.

At the end of the speech Ziyad Raoof said that situation in the Middle East is dynamic and hard to predict, but the Kurdistan Region will, as always, work for peace in the region and for a democratic and stable Iraq.
