KRG Representation in Poland organized the concert on the occasion of centenary of oriental studies at the Jagiellonian University

On the occasion of the international scientific conference for the centenary of oriental studies at the Jagiellonian University, the KRG Representative in Poland Ziyad Raoof invited conference participants – orientalists, scientists from Polish, Arab countries and from other countries of the world – to a Kurdish music concert and dinner. Diplomats were also present, including the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates and the Consul General of Ukraine.

At the beginning of the event, guests were welcomed by a group of Kurdish diaspora and students from Kurdistan in national costumes. Then the audience was welcomed also by Ziyad Raoof. In his speech, he mentioned that in a difficult period for the Middle East and for the Kurds, more than ever, the work of scientists is needed for mutual understanding, dialogue and peaceful coexistence. Ziyad Raoof expressed special thanks to the authorities of the Jagiellonian University for founding Section of Kurdish studies studies, popularizing Kurdish language and culture, as well as for many years of cooperation between the Jagiellonian University and the universities in Kurdistan.

On behalf of the authorities of the Jagiellonian University, prof. Barbara Michalak- Pikulska dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies took the voice. She thanked the KRG Representation for organizing the concert, she also thanked Ziyad Raoof for many years of cooperation with the Jagiellonian University, especially with the Faculty of Oriental Studies.

The music band Hamdam Trio with the participation of the well-known artist Sadollah Nasiri played a concert that was met with an enthusiastic reception from the audience. After the concert, the participants had the opportunity to talk about the situation in Kurdistan and the Middle East during the dinner.

It is worth to mention that opening of the conference was attended by Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad al Qasimi who is ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah in United Arab Emirates. Sheikh was rewarded with gold medal of the Jagiellonian University: “Plus Ratio Quam Vis”

Speaking at the opening of the conference Rector of Jagiellonian University professor Wojciech Nowak appealed to the world not to be indifferent to what is happening in Rojava.
