Delegation from Kurdistan Regional Government visited Warszawa and Poznan

From 15th to 18th January high-rank KRG delegation visited Poland. It was headed by: Begard Dlshad Shukralla- minister of agriculture and water resources, Dr Mohammad Shukri- Chairman of KRG Board of Investment in the rank of minister, Soran Abubakir- Deputy Head of Kurdistan Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry (KFCCI). Kurdistan Regional Government Representation in Poland prepared program of the visit.

Four-days stay was marked with many fruitful meetings. The visit began in Warsaw. The first meeting took place on January 15 in Polish ministry of agriculture and rural development where deputy minister Szymon Giżyński (accompanied by General Veterinary Inspector of Poland and representatives of National Support Center of Agriculture) hosted Kurdish delegation. At the meeting Kurds were also accompanied by Hussein al-Safi Charge d’affaires of Iraqi Embassy in Poland. The day before he also personally welcomed delegation at the airport in Warsaw.

The talks took place in a good and constructive atmosphere, the Kurdish side acquainted the minister with the condition of agriculture and the entire economy in the Kurdistan Region and presented in which fields it could develop cooperation with Poland. Polish know-how in agriculture modernization and export development is of particular interest 

The deputy minister of agriculture was very positive about the cooperation offer. He emphasized his readiness to organize study visits, invited the Kurdish delegation to the next agricultural fair which will be held in Poland in 2020, he has offered, among others providing a special Kurdish stand at the fair. Szymon Giżyński expressed his conviction that this meeting opened a new chapter in mutual cooperation.

Another meeting on January 15 was held in the ministry of maritime and inland navigation with deputy minister Anna Moskwa and staff of the foreign cooperation office. Minister Begard Dlshad Shukralla started the meeting presenting the state of water resources in Kurdistan Region, she also presented specific fields of possible cooperation: exchange of experience in protecting national water security, invitation to tenders for building dams and water reservoirs, cooperation in the field of fishing industry. 

Information provided by minister Anna Moskwa about the establishment of a state-owned company in Poland implementing all investments regarding water resources, as well as achieving comprehensive regulation of all water law provisions met with particular interest from the Kurdish side. The meeting ended with a declaration of maintaining contacts and willingness to organize subsequent study visits.

At the end of the first day of the visit in Poland, Charge d’affaires of Iraqi Embassy invited delegation to the dinner.

On January 16 took place two events organized by National Chamber of Commerce (Krajowa Izba Gospodarcza- KIG) which signed in October 2019 Memorandum of Understanding with KFCCI. At noon chairman of KIG Andrzej Arendarski together with Jerzy Drożdż- head of the foreign cooperation office, invited KRG delegation to the headquarters of the chamber. Andrzej Arednarski started the meeting recollecting visit in Kurdistan Region in 2019 and declared the in 2020 KIG will make an efforts to organize another mission of Polish entrepreneurs to Kurdistan. In turn, the Kurdish delegation presented specific economic sectors in which investments from Polish companies would be particularly desirable.

In the evening Kurdish delegates were special guest at Diplomatic Opening of the year 2020 organized by KIG. At the backstage of the event the delegation had an opportunity to speak with important guests, among others with Krzysztof Mazur- Deputy Minister of the Development and Adam Struzik- Marshal of the Mazowieckie Region. Minister Begard Dlshad Shukralla gave also an interview to Polish TV Channel “TV Polonia”. In the evening the delegation relocated to Poznań. 

January 17 began with a meeting in the Marshal Office of the Wielkopolska Region with deputy marshal Krzysztof Grabowski. Firstly the Minister of Agriculture and the President of the KRG Board of Investment presented the economic potential of the Kurdistan Region, after that deputy marshal Grabowski presented in detail the state of agriculture in Wielkopolska. Presentation of the agricultural potential of Wielkopolska met with great interest from Kurdish side. Minister expressed interest in further cooperation and exchange of experiences, especially in the field of how the Wielkopolska rural areas have evolved into a place where residents still want to live and work. The meeting ended with inviting delegation to another visit in Wielkopolska on the occasion of the fairs “tastes of regions” which will be held in Poznan in September 2020.

Immediately after the meeting, the delegation went to the area of the Poznań International Fairs for the “Polagra-premiery” agricultural fairs. Before the opening of the event, the delegation was greeted by the MTP Group management board – President Premysław Trawa and Vice President Elżbieta Roeske, guests were acquainted with the company’s competences and tasks carried out by it.

After participation in solemn opening ceremony, Kurdish delegation started to explore exhibition space. Many products, especially Polish agricultural machines, met with big interest. Representatives of KRG ministry of agriculture and sales representatives of the companies exchanged contacts. In the area of Poznan International Fairs was held another meeting- with Wielkopolska Chamber of Agriculture. Chairmanship of the Chamber thoroughly acquainted the delegation with the advantages of agriculture in Wielkopolska, as well as the problems it is facing.

Later the delegation visited Wielkopolska Chamber of Commerce and Industry and met with president of the chamber- Wojciech Kruk. He also expressed interest in developing cooperation between companies from Wielkopolska and the Kurdistan Region. Both sides of the meeting presented the economic potential of the regions and particularly promising sectors of cooperation.

In the evening of January 17, the delegation was received at a dinner by Jacek Bogusławski, a member of the board of the Wielkopolska Region. He was accompanied by representatives of the University of Life Sciences in Poznań. One of the main topics of the conversation was the development of academic cooperation.

On January 18 KRG delegation visited third generation bio-gas plant (one of the most innovative in Europe) in experimental agricultural farm “Przybroda”. A visit to the plant and subsequent talks about investing in modern energy sources were considered very fruitful by the delegation.

Later the delegation visited agricultural company SemCo promoted by Wielkopolskie Region as a champion company which successfully combined tradition and modernity. Programme of the day ended in agritourism farm “Gryszczeniówka”. The idea of agritourism, not yet widespread in Kurdistan, met with great interest from the delegation from Kurdistan.

During the whole day KRG delegation was accompanied by Jarosław Maciejewski- deputy chairman of the parliament of Wielkopolska Region and representatives of agriculture and rural development in marshal office of the wielkopolska region.
