Catholic University of Lublin ready for cooperation with Kurdish universities and admission of Kurdish students

On Friday, May 25 Ziyad Raoof KRG Representative in Poland met in Lublin with Rev. Prof. dr hab. Antoni Dębicki- Rector of Catholic University of Lublin. The conversation was conducted in a very good atmosphere and ended with promising declarations.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ziyad Raoof acquainted the rector with the situation in the Middle East, Iraq and Kurdistan also showing the fate of Christians – who are persecuted in Iraq, but found freedom and security in Kurdistan. Then he talked about the Kurdish education sector. He stressed that the universities from the Kurdistan Region are very open and eager to cooperate with universities from Europe, including Poland. A number of cooperation agreements have already been signed between universities in both countries.

The Rector expressed interest in the Catholic University of Lublin establishing contacts with Kurdish universities, including the Catholic University in Erbil. Ziyad Raoof mentioned also about Christians from Kurdistan coming to Poland to study thanks to the scholarships provided by Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, prof. Antoni Dębiński declared that KUL is also open to talks about the admission of students from Kurdistan Region. The participants of the meeting also declared their willingness to participate in scientific and cultural events organized by the Catholic University of Lublin and the Representation of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Poland. .

The Catholic University of Lublin was founded in 1918. It is the oldest university in Lublin and one of the oldest in Poland. This university is one of the most important Polish centers of Catholic thought, but now also offers a wide range of studies not related to religion.
